Faith can trust before understanding the pain.
I Know That My Redeemer Lives
Job holds on to stubborn hope in suffering he can't explain

This short devotional is about faith, from Job 19:25.
But I know that my Redeemer lives, and in the end He will stand upon the earth.
Job 19:25
The scene
We are in Edom, a land of dry hills and reddish rocks, south of the Dead Sea.
Job lost his possessions, his children, and his health, and now he hears three friends who humiliate him with words. Even his relatives have forgotten him, and his bones cling to his skin.
Even so, Job asks that his words be carved in stone forever: “But I know that my Redeemer lives”. He still has no answers, but in the end the LORD answers Job from a whirlwind (Job 38:1).
Job spoke of his pain and, at the same time, said that his Redeemer lives.
Job spoke of his pain plainly and kept hoping in God. Faith does not require pretending it doesn’t hurt. Bring the Father both the pain and the question.
In our day
Pain can arrive without explanation: the worrying test result, the loss we do not understand. We want the why before we keep trusting.
Job did not get the why, but he knew he had a Redeemer who lives. Through Jesus, who conquered death for us, we bring God our pain and our questions, without pretending to be strong. Suffering is not a lack of faith, and no question of ours frightens the God who hears us.
Hope. Job knew that the Redeemer would, in the end, stand upon the earth.
The last word is God’s, and it is a word of life: Jesus conquered death for us. Rejoice in Him.
Consolation. Job knew that the Redeemer would, in the end, stand upon the earth.
The last word is God’s, and it is a word of life: Jesus conquered death for us. Rejoice in Him.
Trust. Job knew that the Redeemer would, in the end, stand upon the earth.
The last word is God’s, and it is a word of life: Jesus conquered death for us. Rejoice in Him.
Brokenness. Job told how even those he loved turned against him (Job 19:19).
When even those close to us pull away, God does not abandon His own and hears our pain. Rest in this care.
Weariness. Job told how even those he loved turned against him (Job 19:19).
When even those close to us pull away, God does not abandon His own and hears our pain. Rest in this care.
Doubt. Job told how even those he loved turned against him (Job 19:19).
When even those close to us pull away, God does not abandon His own and hears our pain. Rest in this care.
Today, the moment an unexplained pain presses in, I will pray: Lord, I know my Redeemer lives.
God hears the pain we cannot explain.
Let us hold resolutely to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. — Hebrews 10:23
