After praying, we can wait with God.

In the morning You hear my voice

This short devotional is about prayer, from Psalms 5:3.

In the morning, O LORD, You hear my voice

Psalms 5:3

The scene

We are in Jerusalem, a city surrounded by hills, where the people went up to worship God.

In Psalm 5, the psalmist has adversaries who speak lies and flatter falsely (Psalm 5:9). He says to God: “at daybreak I lay my plea before You and wait in expectation“.

By the abundance of God’s loving devotion, he says he will enter His house, and asks: “make straight Your way before me”. In the picture, the half-rolled mat and the burned-out lamp show that the night is over.

Only prayer made first thing in the morning counts.

In our day

Some days begin with the phone in hand: messages, news, the list of what is left to do. By the time we notice, we are in the middle of tasks without having spoken with God.

The psalmist presented his cry in the morning and waited. Through Jesus, we have access to the Father at any hour, and handing Him the start of the day is a gift, not a demand.

And you, how are you today?Handing the day to the Father who listens, how are you?
✍️ To carry today

Today, the moment I go to pick up my phone, I will first say one sentence to God, handing Him my day.

God's goodness opens His house to us.

Whoever kneels in the morning walks steadier in the afternoon.
