God's path leaves works to tell about.
Remember the Mercies of Old
Gratitude strengthens the present by revisiting God's faithfulness in the past

This short devotional is about gratitude, from Psalms 77:14.
You are the God who works wonders
Psalms 77:14
The scene
We are in Jerusalem, a stone city high on the hills, with streets that climb and descend.
After nights without comfort, the psalmist decides: “I will remember the works of the LORD“. And he begins to meditate on them and to speak of God’s deeds.
He remembers the waters that trembled when they saw God, the thunder and the lightning, and the path opened through the sea. He remembers the people led like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
For the psalmist, no god is as great as our God.
The psalmist asks: "What god is so great as our God?" This God so great came to us in Christ. Trust Him and praise.
In our day
We do not always see God at work. An exam, a late bill, a prayer still unanswered, and the road seems to have none of His marks.
The psalmist remembered that, through the sea, God’s footprints were not known, and yet He led the people. We have a greater memory: the cross, where Jesus showed that God’s love did not run out. Remembering an old mercy steadies today’s step.
Relief. The waters saw God and trembled, and He opened a path through the sea.
The God who works wonders is our God. Each work of His that we remember becomes praise. Rejoice and tell the Father what He has done.
Gratitude. The waters saw God and trembled, and He opened a path through the sea.
The God who works wonders is our God. Each work of His that we remember becomes praise. Rejoice and tell the Father what He has done.
Peace. The waters saw God and trembled, and He opened a path through the sea.
The God who works wonders is our God. Each work of His that we remember becomes praise. Rejoice and tell the Father what He has done.
Sadness. Before remembering, the psalmist spent nights with his hand stretched out and without comfort.
In the middle of anguish, the psalmist remembered that God had acted before. The same God is near us. Receive this comfort.
Discouragement. Before remembering, the psalmist spent nights with his hand stretched out and without comfort.
In the middle of anguish, the psalmist remembered that God had acted before. The same God is near us. Receive this comfort.
Fear. Before remembering, the psalmist spent nights with his hand stretched out and without comfort.
In the middle of anguish, the psalmist remembered that God had acted before. The same God is near us. Receive this comfort.
Today, I tell God about a hard stretch of the road by which He has already brought me, and I thank Him for having come this far.
God works wonders and does not forget us.
Every morning is a letter from God signed with fresh mercy.
